DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Fred was located near latitude 22.1 North, longitude 37.2 West. Fred is moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through early Saturday. A turn toward the northwest and a decrease in forward speed is forecast by early Sunday. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Fred is in an area of strong upper-level winds, and it is expected to degenerate into a remnant low pressure area Friday night or Saturday. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches).
